Fresh air and starry nights abound from the decks of one of the largest traditional sailing vessels on the Great Lakes. You’ll experience one of the best vantage points on West Grand Traverse Bay. Join us on board for a two hour evening cruise.* After the sail we return to our dock where you spend the overnight secured at our pier, followed by a hearty homemade full breakfast cooked on our wood burning stove in the morning.

*The evening sail will include passengers who are not spending the night, for a total capacity of up to 59 guests. Passengers are welcome to bring along a simple meal on (sandwiches etc.) on the evening sail.  DUE TO SPACE LIMITATIONS NO COOLERS ARE PERMITTED. Please leave beverages ashore.

There are accommodations for 20 guests in 10 simple private cabins below deck which are rustic and fitting of a mid-1800’s style windjammer. Each is equipped with two built-in, wooden, single bunks, a small fan, and electric lighting. The cabins are bright, clean, comfortable and supplied with fresh linens, towels and warm blankets. There’s plenty of room for a good night’s sleep or, if you’d rather (and the weather’s appropriate) you may bring a sleeping bag and a pad for sleeping on deck under the stars. There are two enclosed toilet facilities on deck that are kept sparkling clean. Access to shower facilities on shore is available for further passenger comfort.

Mornings are a special time, with spectacular sunrises climbing over Old Mission Peninsula. Wake up to a fresh mug of coffee topside while the preparation of breakfast is in its final stages…This is one to remember.

Note: This experience is not for everyone. You are spending the night on a ship, not in your typical hotel room (that’s the point). Below decks areas are accessed by steep ladders and all cabins have over/under bunks. But if you’re looking for something new (and old) in an overnight experience Manitou may be the perfect option for you!

Meet Manitou’s Cook

What do you get when you cross a classically trained ballerina with a culinary trained chef focused on farm-to-table?

You get Alexis “Lexie” Nelson, Manitou’s talented and easy-going Cook.

Meet Lexie here.

The Tall Ship Manitou Bed and Breakfast was the highlight of our tip around Lake Michigan. Our stay included a two hour evening sail (complete with dinner and live entertainment), overnight on board and a gourmet breakfast with the crew. The crew was knowledgeable, welcoming and always available. I was traveling with my teenage granddaughter and we had a blast!
